We’ve hit a major snag with the project.  We had a concern with a mic during one of the takes, and switched the plug input to address the concern.  Tech isn’t my specialty, and I trust my team, but I had a bad feeling about changing something like that in the middle of the shoot.  Sure enough, all the audio recorded after the change seems to have come out poorly.  I don’t know exactly what happened, but the fix is frustrating, though necessary:  we need to reshoot half the project.  Fortunately all of the group shots we took before lunch are intact, so we don’t need to coordinate with 3 of our actors.  That would have been a nightmare for scheduling, continuity, etc.  But we will have to set something up with the location again, and coordinate schedules for the 3 crew and 2 actors we’ll be needing, let alone all the equipment, props, wardrobe, etc, we’ll need to bring back.  I’m disappointed that it didn’t turn out, as we had a GREAT day on saturday, but I’d rather reshoot than use poor audio or scrap the project.  I hope we can do it again soon, and it goes as smoothly as last weekend without the audio snag…  😦

In the Can!

Our shoot went great!  We had a few issues we had to work out, but all in all a great day!  This is my first time being a writer or a producer on a project.  I also starred, was a props master, and provided craft services.  Whew!  A busy weekend for sure, but well worth it.  I saw some of the footage with my editor while he was capturing, and it looks great!  Right now sound is my biggest concern.  There was construction going on at our location, which we didn’t know about before hand.  Fortunately it was intermittent and we were able to shoot around it.  The upstairs apartment also had some noise issues ocassionally, and a mic input switch also led to some concerns, but I’m crossing my fingers that we’ve got some clean and level audio to work with.  Editing is next, and I have a composer lined up to do our score, and then my baby will be finished!  😀  Yay!!!

I’m in the final planning phases for our next short film.  This is the first one I’ve written that’s actually being produced.  Exciting!  I had originally hoped to direct it, but just don’t have the skills yet.  I’m hoping to remedy that with some courses that I’ll be taking.  For now I’m an actor, and now a writer and producer.  We’re pulling the final cast together tonight, going over the prop manifest, and setting our call times.  Then I’m off to learn my lines and pick out my wardrobe.  Saturday’s gonna be fun!

Had a great night last night!  I was up on the big screen!

Horrible picture of me on the big screen!

Horrible picture of me on the big screen!

A local director was premiering an independent feature film and asked the owner of my filmmaker’s club if he could have one of the club’s short films to screen as an openner.  Excitingly, he chose one of my films.  A bunch of us went to go and see our debute.  Very cool seeing our work on the silver screen!  There were about 100+ people there.  Granted, we were the openning band.  Most people were there to see the feature, which was incredible.  Nevertheless, we were well received and scored a few laughs in the appropriate places.  I even had my first fan photo op!  After the screening we were gathering in the lobby to chat, and a woman came up to me (perfect stranger), told me that I was great, and asked if she could take her picture with me!  Haha!!  Sure wasn’t expecting that!  I was also able to get a few words with the feature film director to thank him for the screening.  He was very friendly and gracious.  I slipped him my card and got a hug from him, so I’ll keep my fingers crossed for a future collaboration.  At the very least I had a wonderful night with some great people 🙂
