Happy Belated Birthday!

It was my Birthday a couple of weeks ago.  The acting universe has just given me a little present.  For the first time I’ve been offered two auditions on the same day at the same casting studio!  I’ve had two auditions on the same day before, but never at the same studio.  That was pretty cool.  It means they like me, and they trust me.  A vote of confidence.  I’m a firm believer in celebrating the small victories, as they help fuel you for the challenges ahead.

It’s been an eventful summer.  Slow in terms of work, but rich in life experiences.  The most profound of these would be the recent passing of my grandfather.  An opinionated, stubborn, kind man, he always had a twinkle in his eye.  He was born a second-generation Canadian on his father’s side, but was very proud of his Irish roots.  I can often remember seeing the Irish flag flying high above me when I would go up to spend a weekend.  He would go on walks with us (his gaggle of grandchildren; he had a lot), take us down to the brook to play, and hike us out to the family waterfalls and the old forested homestead and graves where his ancestors had first taken root in this new land.  He was always good for telling a story that would leave you in stitches, or throwing another log in the fire to make sure that your toes were warm enough.  I’ll miss him more than I can say.
