I walk into the audition room and am invited to sit across the desk from the casting director. They look me up and down, lean in and out. “Ooooooooooooo. You’re interesting. You look like you could have just come straight out of Middle Earth.”

12:00 – I plan my escape. I’m at work on a sunny afternoon.
Two days before I submit to a casting call. The next day they reply with the offer of an audition. The casting session is the following day from 12-2. I have to work, but it just so happens that my lunch break is from 12:15-1. Perfect! Time is tight, and the location is several major blocks away, but I love a good challenge. I decide to go for it.
Easy Come, Easy Go

I open my facebook at 11:32am. There is a message from a casting director I’ve worked with several times before. It was sent at 2am. She has a music video gig for me in 36 hours. They got it on short notice and need to fill out the cast. She has two roles that I would be good for, and she wants to hire me, now. No audition necessary. They know me, they like me, they trust me, and they’ll pay me x-amount of money. I take 3 seconds to consider. I’ll have to reschedule a dentist appointment, which will probably cost me $75, and find someone to cover my shift at work the next day, which will probably be impossible. I’m in.

2013 has been very good for me. I wanted to update you all on what I’ve been working on. This February I had the incredible opportunity to play a starring role in a new sci-fi / post-Apocalypse web series called Darkest Times. It was a bit of a roller coaster ride, and definitely an experience I’ll never forget. It was a LOT of hard work and dedication by a number of talented and creative cast and crew members. It was not an easy shoot, but nothing good comes easily. 🙂
Adventures in TIFFing

The plan was simple. My shift ended at 8pm, the party started at 8pm, and the venue was only a couple of blocks away from work. Punch out, throw on a dress, touch up my makeup, and make it to the 16th Annual Young Filmmakers Party just fashionably late. Seems simple enough, right? I’m sure you know where this is going…

I recently attended a unique and helpful lecture at The Second City Training Centre on how to make a go of it in L.A. The Q&A style talk was presented by the lovely and talented Ayumi Iizuka. Ayumi was a former instructor of mine at The Second City. Shortly after that she headed for L.A. and now has about two years of on the ground experience to draw from.

I’ve had the good fortune of having my work screened at another film festival. On Friday, April 13, the music video for Jakalope’s song Magnolia played to a sold-out crowd as part of the ReelWorld Film Festival‘s Music Video Night. Of all the countless videos out there, we were chosen as one of only 25 official selections programmed for the evening.

Hello guys and gals! A few weeks ago I announced our 5 000 Blog Hits Thank You Contest! After a failed attempt at making a little prize draw video, I figured I’d just do this the old fashioned way and take a picture. So, without further ado, ladies and gentlemen, we have a winner! Congratulations Megan Brown on being randomly drawn as the winner of the iTunes card! I’ll email you to get your address, and have it off in the mail to you soon! YAY!!
Thanks to everybody for entering. You’re all special to me, and I wish there could be more winners. The good news is, the ol’ blog has already passed the 6 000 hit mark in record time, so 10 000 isn’t that far away. Perhaps that will call for another special treat? 🙂 Have a great day everyone!
Audition this Morning

My morning walk down into the studio district for an audition. What a beautiful day!
I wish I could tell you all more about the auditions I get sent on. Sadly, though necessarily, I’ve been sworn to silence on most of it. You see, everything in this business is confidential. I’m not allowed to share any details of the scripts I read. I can’t give the names of any of the companies I’m auditioning for. My agent doesn’t even like me to say what kind of audition I’m going for on a given day (fast food, financial services product, tv role, etc.).
